Trump Announces 10-Day Ceasefire Between Israel and Lebanon / Hostilities to Halt from Midnight Tonight

Trump announced that a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will begin tonight.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced today, Thursday, that a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel will be established for a period of 10 days.

Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social that he had "very good conversations" with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He added that the two sides have agreed to begin the ceasefire at 5:00 PM US time (12:00 AM Mecca time).

In another message, the U.S. president announced that he would invite Netanyahu and the Lebanese President to the White House to hold the first serious talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983.

Lebanon's Welcome

Following Trump's announcement, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed the decision, describing it as a fundamental demand for Lebanon.

Salam wrote on his X account that the Lebanese government has been striving for a ceasefire since the first day of the war, and that this was our primary goal in the Washington meeting, which saw preliminary talks between Lebanon and Israel last Tuesday.

He described this development as an achievement for the Lebanese people and expressed gratitude for regional and international efforts to reach a ceasefire.

Anger in Israel

Meanwhile, i24 News reported, citing an Israeli official, that Israeli forces will remain in their positions in southern Lebanon during the 10-day ceasefire.

Reuters also reported, citing an Israeli official, that the regime's army has no plan to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon during the ceasefire period.

The Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post reported that Israeli ministers were furious at Trump's announcement of a ceasefire during a meeting of the security cabinet.

Yedioth Ahronoth also reported that Netanyahu's agreement to the ceasefire was made without a vote in the security cabinet.

Earlier, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation had announced that the security cabinet had discussed the U.S. request for a ceasefire in Lebanon on Wednesday night.

Haaretz also reported that the Israeli army is preparing to implement the ceasefire this evening, with orders issued to begin implementation between 7:00 PM and midnight.

However, the Israeli army's Northern Command announced that it has not yet received an official order to stop the war in Lebanon and continues to fight with full force.
